Synaptic Backup

Post by Pierre »

I'm trying to use APTonCd to back up the files on a newly installed PC.

I used APTonCD to create a ISO & then burn't that to a cd.

but when I try to load that cd, back into another newly installed PC,
I get these errors:-
E: Unable to stat the mount point /media/cdrom/ - stat (2: No such file or directory)
E: Unable to stat the mount point /media/cdrom/ - stat (2: No such file or directory)
E: Failed to mount the cdrom.
this error also happens if I use synaptic itself, to load the cd, back into the synaptic repository.

All this program does is to make a meal out of a simple copy/paste job. The files you want are in /var/cache/apt/archives on the first machine. Copy those to something like a usb key or external hard drive and them paste them back into the same location on the second machine. Much easier in my opinion.

Yeah- I'll just use Giver to copy the files over, as you say.

But, I really just wanted to know, why APTonCD wasn't working
& if anyone else had any experience in using the thing . . . .
