[Solved]Software Manager problem after backport installation

Hi,

I am running Mint 13 Cinnamon. Yesterday I activated the backports and installed all the upgrades marked 1 and 2. Lovely - worked a treat. Now I have all the loveliness and LTS !!

But.........

Now the Software Manager starts as usual and I can click in to different categories, but once inside when I click on the name of an application to go to the next page where one is able to read about the app and then install it, it now just does absolutely nothing - it simply won't move onto the next stage.

Any ideas anybody ?

My system is: AMD system (AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3400+) with EVGA NVidia GeForce 210 1Gb graphics card (working nicely sharing my desktop across two screens !). 2 Gb RAM. ASUS M2N-MX Motherboard. 200Gb SATA Hard disk.

Perhaps something went wrong. Are you asked to provide your password each time you start the Software Manager?

If not, check its version:

Should be 7.4.4. Also check the command that is used to start it from the menu:

grep ^Exec /usr/share/applications/mintInstall.desktop

Should be "gksu mintinstall".

Any ideas ? I am certainly out of my depth now !!!
Synaptic works, btw - I've just installed DOSEMU (don't ask...... fantastic app though - I don't use it for gaming - I run an old DOS music notation program called SCORE which I use for work - I think I am one of only a couple of professional music typesetters who use LINUX in this way.)

7.3.9 is the default mintinstall for Linux Mint 13. I added backports on Linux Mint 13, but it didn't offer me a new version of mintinstall?

Sorry, I always thought you would get the newer Software Manager through backports but that seems to not be the case. It's not mentioned here: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2225. And it's not listed in the backports repository either: http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php? ... a#backport.

So disregard my earlier comments Something else must be wrong for your Software Manager. You may try reinstalling it;

Running it afterward gives me exactly the same effect. Do I need to reboot or not ?

Perhaps there is something in those two warning lines at the end of the process...... ?

I don't think so, it are only warnings. But have you also installed MATE? As Caja is the file manager for MATE. That shouldn't cause a problem I think, but still.

The newest version of Software Manager requires you to double-click to open the details page of a package. It's a single click to enter a category, but a double-click to enter the details page of a package. Perhaps that change was also introduced in the Software Manager version you have?
