common method:

1. remastersys

2. fsarchiver

3. clonezilla

4. gparted.
I used this most of the time. just copy from hard disk partition, paste to USB unallocated space, thus had a CLONE partition.
to restore, copy from USB Clone partition, paste onto hard disk partition, or unallocated space in hard disk, and install grub.

I don't seem to have the software/packages;. remastersys,or clonezilla .I am loathe to mess with my hd.

I tried Mint 14 mate, and Cinnamon, but am not happy with these editions.KDE is too involved,so I'll use 11 and enjoy it while I can.The update manager is interrupted with broken/discontinued servers,I was able to update Firefox, and get the apps I need to get productive.Too bad the Gnome edition of 11 was scrapped. Some of the ease, functionality of 11 was lost for what I use.

Thanks for your help.
