Digikam in Mint 14 mate not working?

Hello, I tried to install 2 times Digikam in Linux Mint 14 Mate, throught the software manager. After the process is completed, I click the icon created in the menu, but nothing is happening. What am I doing wrong? If that version is not working, how to install it?
I found this page https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/di ... c-0ubuntu3 but I guess I should compile it, and I have no idea how to do it, since I'm in Linux for a few days. Any working ppa available?

Digikam is available in the standard repository. There's not really such a big necessary to download and compile Digikam from source.
First try to install Digikam from the standard repository. This can be done manually:

- open a terminal and type the following command:

Yes, as I wrote in the first message I did try 2 times and it was not working. Now I got it to work at the 3rd time, but not directly. Basically I guess it's not working the link created in the menu (this is what it's written, I have no idea of the meaning "digikam -caption "%c" %i"). While if I go to /usr/bin/digikam, it is opening. So I had to create a launcher instead of using the automatic icon.
Now the problem is if I want to open a file with digikam it's not working. (it open from inside the program, but not from Nautilus).
If I do Open with, it's not in the list, and if I open through command '/usr/bin/digikam' it's still not working. I don't get it.

What happens when you try to run the program using a terminal command? Do you get an error message? Open a terminal and type the name of the program to run it. If you get any messages, copy them and post them here.

For what do you need Digikam? There are other solutions for it. Digikam is more a KDE application. It can run under Gnome (and MATE/Cinnamon) but it needs some extra KDE libraries.

I have some 20 000 photos to organize and tag.
But the point more than that is that I just switched to linux 1 week ago from windows, and it's getting more complicated than I was expecting. So If I can't even correctly install programs intented for linux (ok a different environment, but still...), or everything takes ages to be managed, and there are 5 differen't ways to install programs, and everytime something is happening, and you have to manually create shortcuts, change icons, etc....I might switch back to the simple double click in Windows!

And 1 hint: best is not to mix KDE tools with Gnome. Although it works since KDE applications installs extra KDE libraries beside the Gnome libraries, they still can create an unwanted mixed up system.
