Cairo Dock

Postby excollier on Fri Feb 15, 2013 7:55 am

I hope I'm posting in the right section here.
I would like to try out Cairo Dock, looks pretty snazzy, and I could use it to lure a few friends away from Windows into Linux Mint. (OOOH, shiny....) :wink:
I have Mint 13 Cinnamon on my laptop, would I be right in assuming that to use Cairo Dock I would need to be booting into Gnome desktop first and install it there?
All help gratefully accepted.

Open a terminal and;

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cairo-dock

And done.

It is not necessary to boot into gnome, cairo-dock runs in cinnamon too.

If I install Cairo-Dock, can I choose just to use it with Gnome? I don't want to lose my Cinnamon set up. If that is going to be lost or upset, then I'll do without Cairo.

I've installed it OK but it hangs when I try to delete som of the default apps on it. Any solution to this....? Problem solved although shutdown from cairo is very slow...

Quick update and finally.....I downloaded and installed Cairo Dock on Gnome desktop. It's impressive. Now I have two impressive desktops including Cinnamon, I like both.
Linux Mint was a great choice to move from Windows.
