some web pages hang in firefox and chromium

Postby bry19 on Tue Feb 26, 2013 5:32 pm

some web site pages hang in firefox and chromium.

It is caused for instance when attempting to make an online purchase and the payment processor is Paypal. For example, having clicked the 'pay' button on the vendors web site, the redierct to the PayPal web site fails to conclude. I can see that the page hangs at... 'waithg for http://www.PayPal.com' (or something very close to that).

Another example is when making changes in the backend of our Magento web store (hosted by an ISP). Saving the changes will cause the web broweser to hang at the stage... 'wating for http://www.mywebstore.com'.

I have Linux Mint 13 Mate installed (Mint 11 worked OK but not perfect in this regard)

I have no such problem in the Windows 7 environment.
My PC is AMD A6-3500 APU with AMD Radeon HD 6530D Graphics Card and 4GB RAM

Any ideas with what I could do to resolve this problem would be great.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

http://mywebstore.com seems to be up for sale. The website doesn't display anything, and when viewing the page source you see a link to domainnamesales.com...

Problem with PayPal could be due to content blocking extensions? Do you perchance have NoScript or similar xss blocking extensions active in the browser you tried this with? It may also only be a problem with this one vendor's website?

Hi and thank you for your reply.

Sorry about the link [ http://www.mywebstore.com ]. I should have explained more clearly that this was an example url and not our actual web store url.

I was really saying that when the web sites and my PC is communicating with each other that my brwoser will hang during the process, at the point where my PC says it is waiting for the web site to respond. (It shows up in the bottom left of my browser window, for example, saying somthing like... 'wating for www.my-example-webstore.com to respond')

I don't have any browser extentions blocking scripts to these web sites in either firefox or chromium.

It seems that I only have this problem when I'm in Linux Mint 13 Mate, as I can sucsessfully carry out these same actions in Windows 7.

I have tried replacing 'Openjdk' with 'Oracle Java 8' but it didn't stop the web pages from hanging and I was (well almost) blindly guessing that this could have resolved the problem.
