Mic issues in games

So... this one is a bit strange. My mic works everywhere else, but when I connect to a server for a game like Counter-strike, it stops working. If I'm not on a server in the game, I can go to the game options and test the mic, and it works fine. Any help?

Some more details... okay, currently I am on Linux Mint 14 using the MATE desktop enviroment. I am using an analog microphone.

About the above image. When ever I "Un-x" the microphone option, then close the window, automatically "re-x"es it. And I know it is possible to get the mic to work, I got it to work once, but I forgot how I did it.

Okay some more details: I switched to Cinnamon desktop to see if I would get some more options... nothing happened. However, I noticed that my microphone settings seem to reset even time I close the Volume Control panel... so would there be away to maybe, edit some sort of value and force it to save the option?
