How to enable login/shutdown sounds on Linux Mint

Postby Zorba on Wed Apr 03, 2013 12:57 pm

After enabling autologin I lost my login sound. I managed to get it back working on Mint 14.1 Cinnamon like this:

1- I ran in terminal :
Code: Select all
/usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="desktop-login" --description="GNOME Login"

1- I went to "Startup Applications" and added "GNOME Login Sound" with the following description:

Code: Select all
Name: GNOME Login Sound
Command: /usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="desktop-login" --description="GNOME Login"
Comment: Plays a sound whenever you log in

But this didn't work on Linux Mint 14.1 Mate Edition. And when I ran: /usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="desktop-login" --description="GNOME Login" I get :
Code: Select all
mint@mint-Inspiron-N5040 ~ $ /usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="desktop-login" --description="GNOME Login"
bash: /usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play: No such file or directory

One more thing I want to enable the logout sound on both editions:( :( Can anyone help me please????

I got it working on Linux Mint 14.1 Mate edition by adding "GNOME Login Sound" to startup applications and changed the command from:
Code: Select all
/usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="desktop-login" --description="GNOME Login"

to :
Code: Select all
paplay /usr/share/sounds/LinuxMint/stereo/desktop-login.ogg

But when I logout and back in the login sound is played twice
