GIMP: Saving A File In A Type Other Than .xcf ?

Linux Mint 14 Nadia Cinnamon

I just took a screen shot and I got a *png as a result, in my ~/PIctures folder. No problems there.

I fired GIMP, cut a piece out of the picture, opened a new file, pasted and saved the new image file. However, GIMP only gave me the choice of saving it as an .xcf. Why? When I used GIMP on other distros before I never had that problem. What can I do to change this?

Thanks much in advance

Happy Weekend

Steve

I noticed that in newer version of Gimp.

Do "File -> Export"

Yep many are pissed at the change and now you have to do a jpeg save as Export.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I guess the GIMP programmers realized that people were finally getting used to the crazy interface, so they cranked up the game a notch :)
