[solved]Blocking the update of packages - how-to and synchro

Postby eMcE on Thu Apr 11, 2013 12:41 pm

Hi all :)

I have similar issue, like roger64 here:

In synaptic I blocked "python-software-properties" package to prevent update because
latest version has a nasty bug in Mint 13 Mate, which affecting command "add-apt-repository":

In MintUpdate package is blocked also. Is ok, nothing shows up.

But, when I do "apt-get update" and "apt-get dist-upgrade" in terminal, seems that package is not blocked.

I have some questions:
1. [SOLVED] -> How to prevent package from updating in terminal?
2. [SOLVED] -> Is "package blocking" somehow "synchronized" between Synaptic, MintUpdate and Terminal update?
3. [SOLVED] -> If not, how can I do such a thing? It is at all possible?

Block from update:
Code: Select all
echo package_name hold|dpkg --set-selections

Unblock to update:
Code: Select all
echo package_name install|dpkg --set-selections

Determine which packages are locked:
Code: Select all
dpkg --get-selections | grep hold

Ad. 2: No. Package blocking is not synchronized.

Ad.3: As for today synchro is not possible betwen different update manager programs.
