I just installed Elyssa. I used Synaptic to put in Streamtuner and I searched for XMMS and marked that for installation and then I added all the plugins. Streamtunner says it can't find XMMS. How do I get it running?

I am having the exact same problem. It might be worth mentioning that xmms in Synaptic is xmms2. I don't know if that matters at all.

Well I never did manage to get Streamtuner to work. Has anyone else had any luck with it, and if so care to share? Also if anyone can recommend a similar program please do. I like the idea of a stand alone Internet radio tuner, but I can't seem to find another alternative. I am trying Tunapie right now. It has a decent listing of stations, but does not have an embedded player, so I have it set to use Totem to launch streams.

Edit: Here is some info I found on the Ubuntu forums.

[markbuntu]Streamtuner was written for xmms which is deprecated, i.e. no longer supported, a new version is on its way that will work without xmms.

This might explain why even after I changed the launch command in the Streamtuner preferences from xmms to xmms2 that it didn't work.

Edit2: In case anyone else wants to try Tunapie here is a link to a .deb package from Debian (version 2.1.8 ) that is newer than the one in the Ubuntu repos (version 2.1.5).

I installed Amarok and edited the 'xmms' entries in the Streamtuner 'preference' sub-menu and replaced 'xmms' with 'Amarok'. Also, have used 'audacious' with good results. Currently logged in with distro without Streamtuner so cannot be entirely specific.

edit: Preferences are under 'edit' and edits of 'xmms' are with 'amarok' ie: no caps. Takes a while to load after you select 'tune' for a station. I seem to remember that the last release of xmms was some time ago and mention was made of security issues.

marvinudy, thanks for the tip. I don't know why I didn't think to try something with Streamtuner other than XMMS. I didn't want to install Amorok, although it is a fantastic program, because I'm trying to stick to mostly Gnome programs (I'm a Quod Libet fan). Anyway I tried Totem and it works great with Streamtuner. Thanks again.

Reading that I have to "edit" brings up horror filled images of the terminal, a text editor, worrying about sudo and root, etc. But for us Gnu-b's, this can be done from the graphical interface. Just click on the Streamtuner icon to open it, click on Edit then Preferences. I found two lines where 'xmms' was written. All you have to do is just double left click on the line and that will highlight the entry, similar to doing a rename. Then, place the cursor to the left of the 's' in 'xmms' and backspace 4 times to remove 'xmms', and type in the name of the application you want to use. I chose amarok and did not see any delay in it's opening. Finally, just click in some free spot on the application window and your setting will be saved. I wonder if this would work for "Xmms2?" Oh well, I like Amarok.
