Cannot Run Updates

Hello,
Just installed Linux Mint 5.0.

I got the network up and the update manager did its thing.
When I try to run the update manager, it will not start.
I tried from the menu, the control center, and the panel.
It will not start...either will the package manager.

I did a reboot...no luck.

Any Ideas?

Try running them in a terminal, and see what errors they give you.

OK,
Ran them in terminal....I was given a PID and nothing more.
I let it sit for a while in case it was doing it in the background. Nothing.

I cannot run the update, package manager, or the software portal.
If I use the software portal, it will prompt me to save or use the installer, then performs the download and that is where it stops. I get a "busy" cursor as if it is trying to start the updater....then it goes away.

I will perform a clean install this evening to see if that takes care of it...if not...on to other distros!

Reinstalled....same thing...no changes.

Linux Mint 4 was nice.....

off to another distro
