Wrong repo showing in Mint 14

Post by dalcini »

I think I've messed something up with my software sources. I'm running Mint 14 (Nadia) Cinnamon, but my software sources dialog indicates that I'm linked to 12.04 Precise while (I believe) it should be pointed at 12.10 Quantal. I've edited etc/apt/sources.list to reflect the default repositories (as shown in a fresh install of Mint 14 in a VM I have), but this hasn't changed anything. Here's my output of inxi -Sr:

Code: Select all

danny@danny-XPSM1730 ~ $ inxi -Sr
System: Host: danny-XPSM1730 Kernel: 3.5.0-37-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: Gnome Distro: Linux Mint 14 Nadia
Repos: Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ nadia main import upstream
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal-security main restricted universe multiverse
           deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ quantal partner
           deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ quantal free non-free
Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/plexmediaserver.list
           deb http://plex.r.worldssl.net/PlexMediaServer/ubuntu-repo lucid main
I thought correcting the top line to point to nadia main would correct the problem, but the Software Sources GUI still shows 12.04 on the top line.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It does so for me also, so not something wrong on your end. I think some text file wasn't updated from Linux Mint 13 to 14.

Interesting. Good to know that I'm not losing it. What's strange though, is that the Virtual Machine that I built shows Quantal in the sources window. The sources.list files are identical too!

That indeed is weird. Are both installations fully updated? It might have been some update package that changed this file.

Now that you ask, no, they are not. I hadn't bothered to install the Linux mint updates to my virtual machine. I will do so tonight and let you know if it makes any difference. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ok - I've done a full software update on the virtual machine - and it is still showing the correct repository! I'm currently stumped as to why (or how) my physical machine running Mint 14 Cinnamon can show Ubuntu 12.04 'Precise Pangolin' as the Officially supported software repo. :?

Perhaps it has something to do with another repo that I've added? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Danny

This is just a shot in the dark, but I think I read that Mint 14/15? has its sources in some dir/file name ending in a d, rather than in "sources.list"?? I cannot check this, as I am still on Mint 13.

Thanks for that input Bob. Indeed, etc/apt/sources.list.d/ exists.

On my clean Linux Mint 14 VirtualMachine, there is one file in there: "local-repository.list".
This file contains one line: "#deb file:///user/share/local-repository binary/".

However, on my physical Linux Mint 14 machine (the one showing the wrong ubuntu source), there are many files in this directory - seemingly for other apps I have installed (Plex, wine, handbrake, etc). Interestingly, the "local-repository.list" file in this directory is empty!

The rabbit hole goes ever deeper! :)

I've been trying to find a good guide for LM14 system files to learn exactly how all of this works, but with no luck so far. I will keep looking and post back if I find anything of value.

Kind regards,
Danny
