D/loaded it - installed it - now cant find it?

Postby Chrismystery on Sun Jun 29, 2008 9:14 pm

Hi All "Nixers"

I'm a newbie user of Linux Mint and loving it. However on the learning "curve" I have found it frustrating that when I d/load in Synaptic that if the program/software has no start Icon setup in the menu you have to locate it in the file manager. So the question is how does one find out what files were d/loaded recently and where did they go in the file folders? Is there a place that shows what has been loaded during the last ...7 days, 30days etc?
Please if you can help reply to this topic.

TIA
Chris

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

In the terminal
which your_application
Unfortunately you have to use the exact name including case
find is also useful
this finds all files in home beginning with Husse
find /home -name Husse* -print
Unfortunately it's case sensitive
My favorite is locate
First update the locate database
Code: Select all
sudo updatedb

then
locate -i what_you _search_for
-i makes it case insensitive
Image
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
