Thanks a lot. I just had this problem and after following these directions it fixed it right away. I had no idea what was going on haha. To anyone who does have this problem in the future. After installing gconf-editor remember to logout like someone had mentioned previously and then once you log back in everything should work again.

Even though this is an old thread the grab your mouse just happened to me.
