Thunderbird- different in XP & Mint????

Postby dnmint on Tue Jul 22, 2008 7:37 am

I have a dual boot- XP & Mint. I have Thunderbird on both.
I find that in XP it shows Mail, Calender, Tasks in the left pane.
In Mint it shows only Mail , Calender.
Is it OK or I have to do something more ????

You just have to change the layout. There aren't any differences between OS versions.

How do I do that?
In XP I did nothing.. it came as Mail-Calender- Tasks format.
In Mint as Mail - Calender only.

Thanks

Oops. When you click 'view' then 'layout' make sure that 'today pane' is checked. That will show your tasks. Hope this helps!

That's the same version I use (latest stable available) , and I have no trouble enabling tasks via that menu selection I showed you. Perhaps you need to resize your window? If that doesn't work try to uninstall it via synaptic package manager, then re-install it again. I really don't understand why it wouldn't work for you now.

Make sure that when you have the Today pane open (Cntl+D) that the "View" (red arrow) is either 'All' or 'Tasks.' Then you tasks will show in the Email view. Also make sure that the top of the 'Today' pane shows 'Events and Tasks' if you want to see a seperate pane for Tasks (blue arrow).

There does not appear to be a button available for 'Tasks' that you can add to the lower left hand pane. If you right-click in that area it should bring up the 'Mode' toolbar. But I do not see where you can add buttons to that toolbar.

You may have to check the Thunderbird forum at the Mozilla site to see what they say.

I downloaded Lightning 0.8 & installed. Presto, the Task icon showed up in the low left corner.

Great, thanks for posting back with a solution! :)

I had just downloaded Lightning 0.8 today as well as I wanted to use the 2-way sync Google Calendar extension Provider. The Tasks icon did not automatically appear for me, but I just opened the Mode toolbar and added it. Nice!

They also changed the key combo to make the Events/Tasks sidebar appear when you are in the Mail window. It was Cntl+D, now function key F11 opens the sidebar.

Thanks again dnmint for posting back about the Task icon......much appreciated.

Oh Bob
I am learning that the Forum is all about Learning together- growing together. I am really getting into the spirit of open source & the comeraderie. In fact despite dual boot , I hardly open my XP as all programs - hardware work beutifully in Mint.
Let us learn together ( See my logo :) )
