Temp Monitor & Log

Postby jbaerbock on Tue Jan 07, 2014 8:09 pm

So my wife's computer is randomly shutting down and it's only during gaming etc...I am hoping to find a program that will run non-obtrusively that essentialy just logs the temperature of the computer every 15 minutes or something into a basic text file. So then after her computer has a bout of reboots during gaming I can get home at night and check the log to see what happened during the day.

Anyone have any suggestions on programs they've used like this sucessfuly? She has Petra with everything up-to-date.

you can install lm-sensors, and set it up using sensors-detect, then just use a simple script like this to get a reading every 15 minutes:

Code: Select all
#!/bin/bash
log_file=templog.txt #your log name
sleep_time=15m #or whatever you want

touch $log_file
while :
do
echo "---------------------------------------" >> $log_file
date >> $log_file
echo "---------------------------------------" >> $log_file
sensors >> $log_file
sleep $sleep_time
done
