Install Tor and Privoxy? --Solved!

Postby enwent on Mon Mar 12, 2007 5:24 pm

I discovered Bianca on a recommendation from the PCLinuxOS forum, and I'm having a blast with it! Just one question: I'd like to install Tor and Privoxy, but can't find them among the default repositories in Synaptic. Might they be in another repo, or am I left to install them from source?

I've had mixed success with source installation in other distros; it worked in Debian Sarge, though I have to start Tor manually, but failed dismally in Vector 5.8 and broke my network connection in the bargain.

I'll appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

What about typing in"tor privoxy ubuntu" in Google. Then you get http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=10825 as the first result.
The first line below the first headline states: Make sure you have enabled the universe repository.
And if you've done that you find them in Synaptics

Thank you, Husse! I searched these forums, but didn't think to try Ubuntu's. I wasn't sure how closely Mint is derived from Ubuntu, but I'll remember that trick for future reference and try not to waste any more of people's time here.

Anyway, Tor and Privoxy are now installed and playing happily together. Thanks again!

Now, I did not want to be rude to anyone, but when the solution would be found if you still could use the "I am lucky" option in Google.....
And most that works in Ubuntu Edgy works in Mint :)
And don't hesitate to ask for help if you have a problem, but do a bit of googling and searching in the Ubuntu forums first :)
