Smb4k and Kwallet

Hey

I use Smb4k to connect to my server and access shares. The first time I connect to that server to mount a share, I have to authenticate with the server with a username and password.

In the settings, Smb4k offers to save authentication details for future reference to save filling details in again. For this feature, it makes use of 'Kwallet', the KDE Wallet which remembers usernames & passwords.

Is it possible to install and use Kwallet in Gnome to allow support for saving passwords in Smb4k?
If not, is there a Gnome equivalent that Smb4k can use (I don't think this is possible, but it might be).
Or if all else fails, is there a Gnome equivalent of Smb4k? (other than the built in Samba browser which never works!)

Thanks a lot.
Ollie.

What about
Control Center > Encryption and keyrings (found towards the bottom)

Yeah, I've seen that. But Smb4k doesn't detect it as a way to save passwords. :(

I hear what you're asking, and have the same questions you have about smb4k.

One issue I had with the solution posted above, which I tried to investigate, is that when I click on Control Center -> Encryption and Keyrings, I am immediately met with this unsettling error:

Couldn't get list of password keyrings

The gnome-keyring-daemon application is not running.

Hmmm... what's up with that?

@wb53tx: Hmm.. that's odd! I can open Encryption and Keyrings fine. Maybe you have a dodgy install of Linux Mint? I don't know much about the internal workings of Linux Mint, but maybe you could benefit from a reinstall of the gnome-keyring-daemon..?
By the way, Encryption and Keyrings is of no help when it comes to saving authentication info for Smb4k because Smb4k expects Kwallet and nothing else. This is because it was built for KDE and not Gnome, although still compatible with it.

Sorry I can't help with your gnome-keyring-daemon problem, though. :?

If you want to try something other than smb4k then pyNeighborhood does not require the KDE libs.
Latest stable release here http://downloads.sourceforge.net/pyneig ... .1.tar.bz2
