iptc support in gthumb

Postby Dwood on Mon Sep 08, 2008 5:50 pm

I would like to get gthumb to add keywords to photos using iptc as this information is stored with the photo not an external source so remains with it even if you move the photos.

It looks like it can be done according to this:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s ... tion/28912

Problem is I have no idea how to recompile a programme.

Is it easy to do and could someone explain how?
or better still, could someone who knows about programming etc be able to do it for me
You could then add it to the software portal - a minty gthumb!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I don't know how to recompile a program, but I know how to compile a program and I suppose that's what this means
Uninstall gthumb and compile - you need the source for that
You must also install build-essential - you find it in the software portal and you must install libiptcdata and libiptcdata-dev first as suggested in the link in your post
You find gthumb here
http://gthumb.sourceforge.net/
Unfortunately I found that the link to a good guide to compiling a program is dead (I must edit the wiki accordingly)
I found a short description you could use
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-how ... ogram.html
This is of course after you've installed as described above
Only you should be root - that is use sudo - for all commands not just make install as indicated

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
