Firefox 3.0.1 Missing bookmarks, history & back

Morning all,
I'm having troubles with my Firefox, I've lost my history, all my bookmarks and my back button won't work :-(
When I open firefox I am presented with a blank page, if I hit my home button then my LinuxMint homepage appears.
I've searched through my folders and found a backup file with all my bookmarks, I try to reinstall and it comes up with 'Unable to process the back up file' OK. I've tried unistalling all my extensions, this doesn't fix it. I've tried looking on the firefox forum, however everything is assuming I'm using Windows and Norton antivirus is blocking it. My guess is maybe I've accidentally installed an #3 package that has interfered with it or I've accidentally edited a setting in FF, or there is a bug of somesorts, however the FF forum doesn't have any answers, anyone have any answers?
Cheers,
R1bby

Upon further investigation this seems like a common bug in FireFox :-(
Anyone know of any Mint workarounds?

rename your firefox profile folder and try ff again to see if everything is working. not only should you have a backup of your bookmarks file but you should have a bookmarks.html file in that same folder (your profile folder, which will be named like cx4ogx1l.default). if renaming your profile folder which will generate a new profile fixes your issues then start adding your extensions one at a time, use ff for awhile and see if the issue comes back. if it does then you will know what the culprit is.

havent had any issues like what you are experiencing at all. i would suggest that you use the foxmarks extensions which uploads your bookmarks on a secure server or a server of your choice for backups and synchronization with other pc's you may use. there are other bookmark backup tools that you can use also.

good luck

I used Synaptic to update Firefox and was given a choice to keep or replace a file, (bookmarks, etc.). I knew to keep the existing file as soon as I saw bookmarks listed. The update worked perfectly. There is a Firefox 3.0.3 package now because of security problems that were found.

Here is the announcement.

Clem has uploaded the latest packages for LinuxMint.

Hi.. I found the solutions.. that's because Firefox can't read files in ~/.mozilla folder.
Try this:

Code: Select all

sudo chmod 777 ~/.mozilla -R
Restart Firefox, and.. tadaa.. check your bookmarks and history.
