Intel 915 GPU trouble in Cassandra

Postby Atraisce on Wed Sep 24, 2008 4:00 pm

Hey everyone,

I've installed the new wine 1.0 for Ubuntu 7.04. If I correctly follow the wine instructions for configuring World of Warcraft, I can get the game to start up, and even run in the game world. but I get about 1-2 fps. I have a toshiba satellite M60 with the intel 915 graphics processor and my machine has 2.0Gb of RAM. I can very easily run other native 3D games like open arena (although I know it's not all that new) but I assume that I should get wow to be at least playable. Thanks for your help.

Does not ring any bells - have you tried the Wine forums?

Yes, someone else had an intel GPU problem and they were told to set their allocated video ram. But when I tried it, X failed to load. So I had to change it back. Well I added a line in xorg.conf that said 'LinearAlloc' and I set it (in KB) to 128MB. But nothing changed. Then I added "VideoRam "128"" (again the number was in KB so it's 131072 or something like that) and then X failed to load. Any ideas?

World of Warcraft can hardly run but other games does run?
But run under Wine? open arena is a native linux game
The requirements for WoW are modest

Alright, well I've found the solution to this one on the ubuntu forum. In winecfg, I simply had to disable pixel shading and in config.confused, I use direct3D rather than OpenGL. This chipset doesn't like OpenGL and with d3d you can set -dxlevel 70 or 80 or 81 or whatever to improve performance. It doesn't crash anymore but isn't QUITE playable yet. It still loads the in game world and looks pretty decent as well. It just has low fps. anyone have any tweaks?
