I did search before posting, but didn't find that anyone else had written about this. So apologies if I'm duplicating.
Printing from Java applications (e.g. Freemind) will not work properly when LinuxMint 5 (Elyssa) is first installed. If you examine the log, you'll see that Java throws a null-pointer exception. The problem is a well-known Linux/Java issue (see http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6633656 for the Sun report) and not a Mint-specific problem.
Thought other folk might appreciate a link to http://techxplorer.com/2008/02/21/printing-issues-with-java-on-linux/, which has the best workaround (or fix, depending on your p.o.v.) that I have seen. It worked for me, on Elyssa.
