I installed Mint 5 finally last night and I spent ages trying to add a few 3rd party repositories in synaptic, but each time I opened up the repos again they had vanished. In the end I had to install the Software Sources app, then open that and add the 3rd party repos in there. That seemed to work and I finally got to install the software I wanted. But what gives?
Is there any reason why I shouldn't be able to add a 3rd party repo directly in Synaptic without having to install the Software Sources first?

Re: Problems adding 3rd party repos
I don't know why synaptic wouldn't be adding in that repo for you. Perhaps there was a formatting error.
I've always found it easier just to edit /etc/apt/sources.list by hand.
