Help Installing Flash Plugin for Firefox

Postby ScubaSteve on Tue Oct 21, 2008 3:13 pm

I need some help installing the flash plugin for firefox. I went to the adobe site and dowloaded the installer (I tried the .deb, the APT, and the tar.gz), and ran it, but it didn't work. I tried manually copying the .so file to the plugins directory in /usr/lib/firefox, /usr/lib/firefox-3.0 and in ~/.mozilla/, but firefox still can't play flash content. I even ran "sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree" from the terminal, went through with the installation, but still nothing. Not sure if it will help, but I am running Elyssa on an IBM thinkpad T60. Any help on fixing/troubleshooting this problem would be greatly appreciated :D .

I think you've been doing too much and possibly too little :)
Before all this exercise did you check in about:plugins in Firefox?
With the latest installed it reads:
File name: libflashplayer.so
Shockwave Flash 10.0 r12
The installer uninstalls flashplugin-nonfree
And the path to the file is
/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
