can't get WINE installed

Postby Paulgr on Fri Nov 07, 2008 1:42 pm

Whenever I try to install WINE from the package manager, I get the following error message:

W: Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/u ... 5_i386.deb
404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.31 80]

Should I try to install WINE from the terminal and if so what do I type there to do this?

This is (of course) an error in the Ubuntu repository - that file is not there and it is not the version in Elyssa
Do you use Daryna?

No, I'm using Elyssa. I've also just tried installing Amarok and got this error message:

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/free ... 1_i386.deb

404 Not Found [IP: 88.191.79.39 80]

W: Failed to fetch http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/free ... 1_i386.deb

These error messages always follow this question:

Some of the packages could not be retrieved from the server(s) Do you want to continue ignoring these packages? Yes or No.

Also, programs that I do successfully install don't show up in the applications. I just installed Real Player 11 and it doesn't show up there.

I don't know why but the medibuntu repos are often down or disorganized

I may have solved my own problem. Maybe. I just updated Mint and after the update I was able to install WINE. Thanks for your help.

Probably used mintUpdate
Open mintUpdate and refresh if necessary and then apply level 1, 2 and 3 updates
Before you do that go through the list of updates so you have a hunch of whats happening and can exclude things you don't want
