I am very new to linux, but mint is very user friendly.

I know how to switch to different desktops using the cube.

Is there anyway to assign specific programs and windows to run in specific desktops?

For example: firefox ALWAYS opens on desktop 2

I know you can do this with MAC spaces, and its very useful.

I donno man, I couldn't find anything about it so I don't think so. Sorry, ha. You can always right click on the window and hit move to workspace 2.

You can by running ccsm, (alt-f2 ccsm) or Advanced Desktop Effects (from menu, same program)

Select the
Window Management side tab, then Place Windows
move to the second tab,Fixed Window Placement
Choose the second option, Windows with fixed viewport
Click New, then either manually or using the grab option enter,
class=Firefox and the fixed viewport you want them to open in, e.g. viewport 2 is X 1
If you then open a NEW firefox window it will appear in viewport 2, assuming that the default one is 1.
