really slow mp3 encoding in audacity

Postby Paulgr on Thu Nov 13, 2008 10:09 pm

Whenever I export something I've recorded in Audacity, it takes a really long time. Let's say I have a 30 minute recording. It takes about an hour to encode that 30 minute recording into a 128 Kbps mp3 file. Is this the normal time for audacity? The original file is at the audacity default of 96000 hz stereo 32 bit float.

Hmm I have a strange feeling I've already answered this, but no...
This is definitely not normal, but it of course depends on how powerful your computer is
Audacity has a home page

with a lot of info and forum

I have problems in audacity when doing anything over 15 minutes. Copy/paise a 15 min section, and your mouse doesn't respond for 10 minutes.

If you applied a bunch of filters, then it would take even longer to compose those tracks
