Need Wine to see msscript.ocx

Postby Crimson_Wake on Mon Nov 17, 2008 9:43 am

Morning everyone!

I use a program for my business that could conceivably run under wine, so I gave it a try just now.

I began the install and it needed Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher. I went into the deb repo and got Reader 8.1.1 or what not. It's loaded and good to go.

I go for the install in Wine again, and it still says I need 4.0 or higher and cancels the install.

How do I get wine to see 8.1 in Mint....OR do I have to install 8.0.exe in wine to do this?

Thanks!

Blake

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Re: ActiveX in Wine programs?

OK, so I installed Reader 8.exe and the program installed without a problem, but here's the new problem:

When I try to load it, it needs ActiveX controls, and can't find them.

Error 459.

How do I get this bad-boy up and running. It's the only thing left on M$ that I need. If I can get it running through Wine, I can leave M$ forever.

Thanks!

i can only suggest atm use vmware or virtual box and put your windows inside and those programs you want will work as if you got windows as your main os.

well what specific program do you want to load?

maybe crossover office can handle that
~cheers~

Re: Need Wine to see Reader for installs

I use PaloAlto's Business and Marketing Plan Pro 8 & 9, respectively.

I have XP on my office machine with it, but this laptop, however uncool with it's non-3d-SiS card, will not have M$. I want to run both programs (mostly the Marketing Plan Pro 9) through Wine. I'm thinking that maybe I should install activeX with wine as well, so at least the program sees everything it could ever really need in the Program Files directory.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Blake

okay, I learned that it hs something to do with msscript.ocx

I took that file off a windows machine and put it in .wine/drive_c/windows/system32 and then I registered it according to the wine forum.
Still nothing.

Any ideas?
