Synaptic Authentication solved

Postby Yuki_Nagato on Thu Nov 20, 2008 9:03 am

Was trying to install WINE, and broke the authentication for the Hardy mirror.

"W: GPG error: http://mirror.noreply.org hardy Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY CFF71CB3AFA44BDD"

Where can I get this key at? Google was no help, as nobody else is breaking the critical repositories on their machine.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

You use " apt-key add - " but for that you need to know the right server address
The entire command should look like this (taken from an old debian page)
sudo wget http://ftp-master.debian.org/ziyi_key_2006.asc -O - | sudo apt-key add -
To find out what you should have to the left of the pipe ( | ) you have to ask the maintainer of that repository
This is per repository

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Thank you.

I was able to fix this mess up with a restart. The repository is still not authenticated, but Synaptic stopped crying about it, allowing me to update.
