Package manager error

Postby Ralphnaderchop on Mon Nov 24, 2008 10:05 pm

Hello,
I've had something odd happen, and I normally don't use the machine this happened on, but wonder what I should go and do from here.

Issue is that for some reason or another, when opening Synaptic package manager, I get and error that reads this:

"E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report."

I went to terminal and entered

"dpkg --configure -a"

I get this once entered:

"Setting up language-support-es (1:7.04+20070209) ...
Generating locales...
es_AR.UTF-8..."

And hangs there, for at least three minutes. Should I wait longer, or is there a process to stop or end it.

I am not able to enter into Synaptics PM, or Mint update, before or after this.

I appreciate any help in the matter.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I suppose you really entered sudo dpkg --configure -a :)
It seem that we have to do a bit more
Unless you have a really slow internet try
apt clean
This clears out all downloaded packages including the broken one
But first go to /var/cache/apt/ and open the folder as root (right click)
Delete the .bin files there - they can get corrupted and create a problem

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Thanks again Husse. I'll give that a try here in a minute. Sorry for the delay, had to wait for replacement parts to get this machine up. And no, no slow internet here.
