Any Gimp gurus here? A question about photo manipulation.

Post by James_Smith »

I have a set of photos of a woman dressed as Wonder Woman (it's Erica Campbell, by the way  ). The problem is that she's wearing white boots. Well, Wonder Woman didn't wear white boots—she wore red boots.

A few weeks before I went Linux (which was only last month), I played with Photoshop a little on my son's computer, and, even though I didn't know what I was doing, I became aware enough with the program to realize that, theoretically, it is possible to change the color of Ms. Campbell's boots from white to red. Is it possible with Gimp? If so, how do I get started?

There are probably many ways to approach this. I have played with this a litlle
so here is how I would do it.

1. Use Tools/Selection tools, and choose selection shape that most closely
fits the object you want to modify--for those boots I would probably use
the Freehand Selection tool to draw an outline around the boot edges.
Use the + and - keys to magnify the working area and start clicking the edges
of the white part till you get all the way around the boot.
Once you have the area outlined you can modify just that area.

2. Then select Color/Colorize and adjust the color controls for the desired shade of red.
Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.

-that video, selecting the object and magnify to recolor the selected area: with magnification it should be fairly easy to do so
  • And there are some other videos on that list (right hand side of playing video) ..
This is the same advice as already listed, but you may wish to review a video before choosing your method
--assuming there may be others that are easier; although this seems the simplest
  • Select object
  • mask object section to color
--doubt it can get any easier..
