Kernel update - when did you get that? It's over a month now since that appeared.
Anyway as you know of fstab, make a copy to be sure and remove every instance of your ntfs partitions, commented or not. And I mean every!
Then your ntfs should be mounted by mintdisk as read and write

Pls paste the contents of your mintdisk log
(/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintDisk/mintDisk.log)

Buttercupgreen (welcome by the way) that's one way to do it. If you remove all instances of any ntfs partition mintDisk mounts them r/w (if you haven't changed the default settings).

I'm having the same trouble; I've used Linux Mint stand-alones & dual boots for awhile, never having trouble. Now my Mint 11 doesn't see my huge NTFS partition meant for shared storage between Win7 and MInt11. Here is an image of my partition table:

Any help? What can I do as a GUI user of Mint for it to recognize the partition?

There can be only four primary partitions, and Windows has messed the partition table ..

You could try to resize some partition using EASEUS Partition Master

Thanks oobtimer. I'll try that download if you think Mint11's, Win7's, or Gparted's partition tool can't manage. Perhaps more importantly, HP's recovery & tools bloatware has occupied primary partitions: now that I've burned DVD recovery discs for Win7, should I also scrap the HP tools partition too in order to make room for another primary partition? Can Linux not see logical partitions extended from DOS partitions btw?
