Firefox updates not available thru mintupdate ?

Postby Bel-O-Kan on Wed Dec 10, 2008 3:08 am

Hello all,

I think firefox 3.0.4 is available for about 1 month now, my Ubuntu machines received the update a few days after the release but my Mint client is still using 3.0.3 ...
As this FF update was a security one, do you know why it takes so long to have it thru mintupdate ? Am I the only one (it could be ...) ?

Thanks in advance !

I think you have to go with synaptic (with enabled ubuntu repos), but I do not know WHy it was not included in mint repos.

My Mint 6 RC1 automatically updated to Firefox 3.0.4. What version of Mint are you using?

Thanks for answers.
I'm running Elyssa with default repos with few tiny exceptions (lastfm for instance). I've updated manually pidgin to 2.5.2 and I'll probably do the same for FF if it does not show in mintupdate this month. But I'll go for a .deb instead of "pollute" Mint with ubuntu depots ;)
I've started my "virtual Felicia" and FF 3.0.4 is available thru mintupdate ... Why isn't the case with Elyssa ? It's not like saying that FF 3.0 is bundled with Elyssa and 3.1 will be the default for Felicia, we're talking about a security fix on the default bundled 3.0.x FF.

In mintUpdate, have you clicked on the "refresh" button to see if that helps? I know that can sometimes be an issue with the mintUpdate application.

Firefox 3.0.4 is in Elyssa - Romeo repo which is disabled by default. You have to enable Romeo to update Firefox. Still don't know why it is in Felicia - Upstream but not in Elyssa.

Thanks. But as this repo is marked as "unstable" I won't enable it just to upgrade FF ...

It's marked as unstable but tbh, I've never had anything from it that's been anything other than stable, so you're still pretty safe if you do enable it.
Linux Mint 8 RC1 = Nice
'apt install' can be used on Linux Mint as a shortcut for 'sudo apt-get install'. 'apt x' can be used for various other apt commands as well.
When a problem is solved, please add [SOLVED] to your thread title.

Ok I did it. I was afraid a lot of updates were available after enabling it ... But only MintUpdate, MintMenu and at last FF 3.0.4 were proposed.
Thanks a have a nice day.
