Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
Hello,
I use Linux_Mint 17.2 x64 - I am a complete beginner!
Everything works fine BUT I have an annoying problem.
I use a mechanical keyboard QPAD MK-85 (USB).
This keyboard works fine on Windows, which proves that he has no physical / hardware problem.
So under Linux_Mint LED (above the numeric keypad) to status:
- Caps Lock
- Num Lock
This does not work at all !!!
example:
I can write in CAPITAL although LED status "Caps Lock" is off.
Small precision, EVERYTHING WORKS WELL with Ubuntu 14.04.2 but not Linux_Mint
How to solve this very annoying problem.
thank you

Re: Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
Might be a driver issue. You could try the easy generic solutions:
a. Install the latest kernel from the 3.16 series:
https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... el-updates
(item 3, right column)
Then reboot.
b. When no improvement: install the latest kernel from the 3.19 series. Then reboot.
c. When still no improvement: check for a newer BIOS / UEFI and when available, install it.

Re: Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
Thank you for trying to help me
Yet this keyboard is not new, it dates from 2012 !!
As mentioned in my first post on the Ubuntu 14.04.2 the KEYBOARD WORKS PERFECTLY.
This Ubuntu use the kernel v3.16.0.30 (I just checked!)
So the problem is not with the kernel, right?
An idea?

Re: Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
I think: yes, right.
I have no idea, but you might try to boot the computer twice: Once with the Mint live system and once with the ubuntu live system. Are there the same differences?
And then a third time, now from the hard drive: Do the LEDs respond, as long as you are in the grub-menu?

Re: Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
In Live-CD:
Ubuntu 14.04.2(Unity) works perfectly.
Mint 17.2 (Cinnamon) It does not work.
By being installed on hard-disk:
Ubuntu 14.04.2 (Unity) works perfectly.
Mint 17.2 (Cinnamon) It does not work.
In the GRUB menu:
I do not have the GRUB menu.
I turn on my PC and Mint appears directly.
So I can not test.

Re: Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
I assumed Ubuntu and Mint are on the same computer; in this case (with a default installation) the grub menu would show automatically.
In this case proceed as such:
Immediately after powering on press and hold the shift-key. This will make the grub menu visible.

Thx
Ok for the shift-key
In the GRUB menu of Linux Mint:
It works perfectly.

Re: Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
Still no idea, only poking around:
Does it work, when you reach the login screen (i.e. Cinnamon not yet started)?
Does it work in a virtual console? For this press ctrl-alt-F1 when you have reached the login screen (without entering your desktop). Enter your user-name and your password (there is no visual feedback when you do this, don't worry). After testing you leave the console by pressing ctrl-D and then press ctrl-alt-F7 (sometimes F8) for getting back into the graphical environment.

Re: Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
Maybe it is a kernel problem after all, because Mint 17.2 has another default kernel, namely the 3.16.0-38.... You could also install the 3.16.0-30 kernel, reboot and boot from that kernel (it's under "Previous Linux versions" in the Grub menu).Pynos wrote:Thank you for trying to help me

So I'm a little scared to do these things.
If there is case sensitive, I can not fix ...
BUT
I just tested with a Live Linux Mint 17.1 (= kernel v3.13.0.37)
This only works when not even.
So I think this problem is not related to the kernel version !!!
Re: Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
Do you have by chance a original 14.04 ISO or can you download it? It would be interesting to find out, how this behaves. Launching the live system would be enough, no installation is needed.
For clarity: 14.04.02 is the second point-release of 14.04.

Re: Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
With difficulty I found an ISO of Ubuntu 14.04 x64 (--> http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/releas ... 4/release/)
In Live-CD:
- It does not work with Ubuntu 14.04 x64 (kernel v3.13.0.24) (= no Caps Lock and no Num Lock)
- I will try with the Ubuntu 15.04 x64 .... black screen - I can not try

Re: Keyboard and Status LED Dont Work
This confirms my suspicion, that there has been changed anything in the point releases of Ubuntu, what did not make its way in the ubuntu-base of Mint (out of whatever reasons). This is not yet a proof, but now a qualified suspicion.
The question is now, which change and in which point release (the first or the second)? I did take a look into the change summaries of the point releases (here and here. I found only one entry with the expression "LED", namely for the first release, which leads to this site. This again leads to the result, that this has been fixed in the kernel 3.13.0-30.54. Note, that this may or may not be related with your problem; I cannot judge this.
It is always possible, that with a later update (of the kernel in this case) a regression happpens. So you could try to install the said kernel; this will not remove your installed kernel. To make this older kernel work you have to select in the grub-menu the submenu for older versions and load this kernel there.
