Texmaker won't build...

Postby harrall on Sat Jan 10, 2009 10:50 am

I have recently installed Linux Mint on my system and Texmaker with it, and I am a newbie to Linux... Texmaker is installed successfully, and the program runs just fine, but it won't build the file when I hit F1. I get an error message saying "Could not start the command." Also, trying to build produces a .log file, of which the contents are the following:

This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.3 (Web2C 7.5.6) (format=latex 2009.1.9) 10 JAN 2009 15:16
entering extended mode
%&-line parsing enabled.
**Test2.tex

! Emergency stop.
<*> Test2.tex

*** (job aborted, file error in nonstop mode)

Here is how much of TeX's memory you used:
3 strings out of 94102
112 string characters out of 1165834
47703 words of memory out of 1500000
3383 multiletter control sequences out of 10000+50000
3640 words of font info for 14 fonts, out of 1200000 for 2000
637 hyphenation exceptions out of 8191
0i,0n,0p,1b,6s stack positions out of 5000i,500n,6000p,200000b,5000s
No pages of output.

Can someone please help me? Having a LaTeX editor is one the few applications I really need...

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I'm not sure about this app, but you say build which makes me think you are compiling (one way or the other)
Did you install build essentials - you can do it from mintInstall

I have installed build essential, and yes, build means compile. The document I am trying to compile just doesn't... It's not due to faulty code, the program simply won't do what it's supposed to. It might be some path or whatnot that's not correctly set.

Also, another question; how do you install new LaTeX packages?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I can't say anything about the error - the info is simply not enough
If you search for Latex you find it in mintInstall as well as Synaptic

I fixed it by installing a whole other LaTeX editor altogether... It works fine, so I won't complain! :)

It might sound silly but did you use the right commands? (which can be changed in options) I made the mistake of overlooking that I was writing a .latex file rather than a .tex file which was the default setting for texmaker.
