Usb stick image burner not working anymore

Hallo i have a problem with Usb stick utility that comes with linux mint
months ago it was working i was able to format and put iso image on the stick
yesterday i try to install a mate version of Rafaela to install on a laptop of a friend ,but after writing the iso the stick disappear from my desktop
it moves instead on root and i m not able to mount ... it won t install after resetting
seems to be a privileges problems to me ...
when i try to format or write an image it ask for root privileges...
any clues !?
