Mint 6 64 bit + kernel 2.6.82.2

Hi there,

I have Mint 6 64 bit installed and working well.

Can I upgrade to a newer kernel 2.6.82.2. If yes then an explanation would be very helpful.

The reason for this is that I am "Protein Folding" for Stanford University, and I find that by installing Mint 6 the folding client is running about 20% slower than Mint 5 Elyssa was. The answer seems to be to upgrade to the newer kernel.

Any help or advice would be very welcome

Best regards Keith

Upgrading the kernel is always risky - you may break something
This kernel is not in the repositories
This is a simple way of doing it

Husse,

thank you for your reply.

Because of my particular need for maximum speed while "protein folding", I have re-installed Mint 5 Alyssa, which gives me between 20 and 25% increase over Mint 6. I have used this disc before without trouble, but this time I had to try several times before I finally managed a full install. Having had so much trouble with re-loading Mint 5, I think that I will stick with it until perhaps the next version of Mint 64 bit (not the current one) is released.

I have kept the thread just in case I get tempted to try my luck.

Best regards Keith
