Loading iPods

Postby Betwixt on Fri Feb 20, 2009 12:05 pm

I put a geographically remote relative onto Mint 6 with complete satisfaction – so far. However, she recently bought an ipod nano 8gb model a1285 and we find it cannot be loaded with music files by Music Player (Rhythmbox) as could earlier models. Although it mounts and displays the icon both on the desktop and in Music Player, one cannot drag and drop music files into it. There has been some discussion of this and the following link from an Ubuntu forum gives a technical answer:

http://lilserenity.wordpress.com/2007/1 ... d-nano-3g/

This is not helpful in our case and I have three questions:

Is there the possibility before long of Mint/Rhythmbox box having a suitable upgrade to work with the latest iPods?

Meanwhile, can anyone confirm if Banshee (which is available with Software manager) will work without hassle?

Is there an alternative solution?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

This might get Rhythmbox working.

Thank you. Were it my problem I might be tempted to try that solution but as I am remote from the pc I cannot ask the user to do so. Actually that was why I wondered if there was now a simple answer or would be soon. Any new iPod owners care to comment?

Bit of a dredge, but try Songbird.
http://www.getsongbird.com/
use the ubuntu build here
http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Developer/Articles/Builds/Contributed_Builds
Seemed to support ipod well and supports syncing.
Else use yamipod
http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/
Interface is a bit of a dog, but works quite well. Its just not as easy to set up as it should be.

And just for interest
