Twitter From Command Line

Postby jayemdaet on Sat Mar 14, 2009 2:52 am

I found a good article on how some people were doing command-line twittering. So I took it upon myself to wrap the idea up into a easy to use command-line app. I posted the application and instructions at http://www.slashvar.com/twitter-cli/

Happy Twittering to you all!

@ Husse

Some of us spend a lot of time on Linux machines and it's super simple to just type something real quick in command line. It seems that Twitter goes out of its way to make the interface to it as easy as possible so I have just taken it a step further by making is even easier for us Linux junkies to update Twitter.

This has been a really helpful app for me, personally. Instead of having to open a new tab, sign in to Twitter, and then post, I can just click the Terminal button on my panel and tweet. I appreciate the effort.

In all honesty, I don't twitter in the sense everyone else does. Twitter can be used for other things. Since Twitter can be made private to only allow certain people (or no one) access to your Twitter's it can be used as a free SQS (Simple Queue Service). Companies like Amazon charge for this service, but for non-critical or experimental purposes, this is a nice alternative.
