thunderbird 2.0 upgrade??

Postby willjzab on Sat May 05, 2007 1:50 pm

So after downloading the thunderbird 2 archive from the mozilla site, I tried to upgrade/install over the thunderbird 1.5 that came with Bianca.

Here was my process:
run nautilus as su, archive mozilla-thunderbird.1.5
unarchive t-bird 2.0
copy all 2.0 into the 1.5 folder.
run tbird -> nothing.

so I deleted the mozilla-thunderbird folder, unarchived my 1.5 archive and now t-bird won't run. any thoughts on how I can recover my 1.5 or even finish the upgrade to 2.x? :cry:

thanks,
bill

if you just reinstall thunderbird from synaptic it will restore 1.5, alternatively, thunderbird 2 should work but it needs to bee run from the folder its in,

What I did is:

1. Remove thunderbird 1.5 using synaptic or adept
2. install thunderbird 2.0 from /home/username
a. cp download_path/thunderbird-2.0.0.0.tar.gz /home/username
b. cd /home/username
c. tar xvf thunderbird-2.0.0.0.tar.gz

3. goto menu System->Pref->Menu Layout
a. select internet
b. add new item
c. in field "name" type thunderbird 2.0
d. in field "command" press browse, select /home/username/thunderbird and choose thunderbird

4. choose application->internet->thunderbird2.0, There you go!

Been trying to crack this with my Celena installation.

How do I force a Thunderbird 2 install.

Any ideas?
