.bin at end of Archive files!!!

Does anyone know how to get the OS to stop appending .bin to the end of archive files when I download them?? Very annoying......TIA!

weird ive never seen this problem anywwhere, are you using firefox? if so could you point us to a link that does it.

Yes, correct, I use Firefox. It usually happens when I try to download .rar or .zip files, especially some study materials from net130.com (chinese technical references website). TIA

Also, bear in mind that you obviously don't have to actually finish dl'g them - even if you just allow the d/l to start you will see the ".bin" being appended to the file...or at least for whatever reason it's doing it for me Of course when I use W1nB10w$ this doesn't happen, but who in their right mind would want to do that?!?!

doesnt do it for me it just has
ONT10_PPTs.rar.part (coz i didnt finish dling 79+mb:))

so im not sure what to suggest, does it do it in other browsers? or just firefox

This seems to happen whenever I try to download items from Rapidshare links. Any thoughts?

Yo dude,

In Firefox, look under Edit>Preferences, and then under the Content tab. Under the "File Types" section, click "Manage". Anything look suspicious there?

Nope...nothing out of the ordinary...what should I be looking for? There's *no* handling default preference for .zip, .rar, or .bin. That still doesn't account for the strange behavior though...did you try any rapidshare dl's for yourself to see this?

I did actually try dling one of those links, but I didn't finish either of the files, and they didn't show up on my desktop... While I was downloading them, they looked normal, IE they didn't have .bin appended to them. Perhaps you should associate them with some kind of program so Firefox won't get confused?
