Questions about applications and software

Occasionally my desktop icons fail to appear and my 'right' mouse click button fails to work on the desktop when icons fail to appear. I have to reboot or with the help of the Mint Forum apply 'ctrl + alt + backspace' to log in again. The 2nd login will restore the icons to desktop and functionally of mouse is restored. Some Mint Forum members advised me it could be a 'nautilus-issue' failing to start. I have been using Mint 6 Felicia for a couple of months and the trouble just started to show within the last couple of weeks. I keep my mint system 'up-to-date' with updates, so it might be related to a recent change.

You are correct this is a Nautilus issue - if you have Gnome
However this is the kind of problem that is most difficult to solve, the "happens occasionally" problem
This might help. Start gconf-editor* and search for the Apps->Nautilus->Preferences->Show desktop key. Uncheck and check the checkbox a few times.
*Use gconf-editor in a terminal or a launcher (Alt+F2)
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
