Offline repository DVDs

Postby nh2 on Wed May 06, 2009 8:24 am

Hi,

As a "free OS distros" lover I have downloaded a few releases of Mint these past 3 or 4 years but I never installed any on my desktop.
Living in a 3rd world country with no internet connection at home, one of the reasons which make me choose a distro is the availability of offline repositories on DVDs. That's why I first switched from RedHat 8/9 to Debian. Then I discovered the Ubuntu DVDs at http://ftp.leg.uct.ac.za/pub/iso/Ubuntu ... kages-DVD/ and ftp://kambing.ui.edu/iso/ubuntu-repository/hardy/
Here comes the aim of my question: are there any offline repo DVDs for Mint and if not can I use the Ubuntu Jaunty ones with an installed Mint 7? will not there be conflicts between versions of the packages?
The answer to this question will probably help me choose the next OS for my Desktop.

Thanx in advance.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

There are non as far as I'm aware for Mint, but you could create your own using apt-on-cd. However provided you stick to the comparable ubuntu version, those packages should work fine, and shouldn't conflict anything, but you won't get the mint-specific stuff.

all the main edition ones will be sure, so yes, I guess you could use that, but you won't get any upgrades, as the release disc is usually only released once. Nor will you be able to get all the community editions' packages on one disc etc. I guess it really depends what you want to use it for. Also, if that's your plan all along then why ask if mint has repo disks?
