Ok then, that's part of the new notification system in jaunty, which uses libnotify. You can configure the notifications in Preferences --> Plugin --> Libnotify Popups --> Configure Plugins (you can also disable it entirely from here if you really want). At least the new notifications are less intrusive. Hope this helps.
