ugly fonts on xmms or audacity

Post by amin »

minters,

I have an ugly fonts (not smooth) on xmms or audacity. Other application's fonts are ok. Is it because of library that they are using or something else?

Yes, it's a problem with the libraries. Both apps are using GTK v1 for rendering their GUI, and that version does not support font smoothing. There are newer versions of both apps which are compiled against GTK v2 but they are not in the repos as far as I know; so you'd either have to get them manually or you'd have to "alien" them from another distro. Or you compile the package yourself? Look here, it doesn't seem to be too difficult:
