Advice on Chroot or jailed environmets

Postby Tuxzilla on Sat May 23, 2009 4:45 pm

Hey guys I'm looking for a little advice on jail environments. Heres what it would be for.
I don't connect to the internet with windows but I like to play PC games
,because of the mods. Anyway these mods come in the form of .rar, zip, and 7z files,
now I haven't had any problems with these yet but i know theres potential for letting the bad stuff in.
And chroot jails seem pretty cool:)
So what would be your suggestions for making these jails to a complete NOOOOBB :)
Mint has three tools Jailer, makejail and jailtool, which I guess are just scripts for making these environments.
What I'm looking for is basically a folder where I can open these files safely and check them for viruses and
other bad stuff.
PS Would virtualbox be something to look at for a solution?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

yes, virtualbox should let you safely investigate, while still being able to roll back to a previous snapshot if necessary. You might also want to consider a virus-scanner which is usually installed to catch windows viruses before they reach windows computers.
