Open Office Launch Failure

Postby dbaral on Sat May 30, 2009 9:05 pm

I have recently installed Mint 7, after testing it for a few days in a VirtualBox. Using the VirtualBox installation, I was able to launch Open Office without problems. After the direct installation of Mint 7, an attempt to launch Open Office hangs at the first splash screen. Attempting to launch Open Office in a terminal results in the following message: "unable to get gail version number."

I don't see anything relevant in this forum, although a general search reveals that there is an unresolved Ubuntu bug report (365763) concerning this issue. I have tried the two suggestions mentioned in this bug report, with no positive result.

Has anyone had similar problems launching Open Office and--more importantly--does anyone have a solution?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

That bug report is also about the only useful thing I find
However the message "unable to get gail version number." is unrelated
At worst this is a faulty CD with a fault in OO only
Start OO again and the run
dmesg | tail
and post here
Can be very revealing

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Thanks, Husse, I decided to do a reinstall of Mint, creating partitions with Acronis and mounting them during the installation, rather than letting Mint create them. I did this because Acronis reported errors in the main partition created by Mint. Now Open Office launches correctly.
