Amarok 2 no sound on Gloria

I've searched around through the forums about this and found some similar posts but no solutions and not sure my problem are related.
All other sounds work and all other media players work but, when I start Amarok, it says something about Phonon Audio Device sil... doesn't work(something flashes too fast to see and remember) falling back to default. I've tried running it from CLI and it gets all kinds of errors and I'm not sure which, if any are relevant as most of them say something about not liking the IDV3 music tags.
I wouldn't mind using another player but, Amarok is the only one that syncs well with mine and kids .mp3 players. It will still work fine for that task even though I can't get it to play. I know it has something to do with sound driver settings and probably how KDE (I use Gnome) is interpreting them but I'm not sure how to proceed. I've tried removing pulseaudio as someone suggested and that didn't help.
I appreciate anyones help on this!
