MySQL Admin & Moodle

Postby jdplunkett89 on Wed Jun 17, 2009 5:32 pm

I'm trying to get Moodle up and running on Linux Mint 7 and have been installing everything manually. I have Apache2, MySQL 5, and PHP 5. Everything has been running smoothly up to the point where I needed to configue a database for Moodle data to be stored. So, I have MySQL Admin installed, which gives a GUI interface to perform tasks such as this. So I attempted to connect to MySQL server instance with the username root and leaving the password blank. Each time I do I get the error in the screenshot. Anyone have any advice?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

A couple of quick things. First off I've not used MySQL Admin so I can't offer assistance there. When you installed your LAMP, did you allow the server name to be the default "localhost"? The reason I ask this is because MySQL Admin might be trying to connect to the localhost server and if you named it something else, may be the (pardon the pun) "root" of you problem.

I've always used phpMyAdmin (it's in the repositories) for a front end to MySQL (use it at home and work). Gives a nice web-based GUI to MySQL.

It's after the fact, but there is a really easy way to install LAMP other than the manual method via CLI. I've detailed it on my website if you're interested.
